UID - A National Security Threat

A government program touted out as one meant for welfare turns out to have serious implications for national security.

I am neither a scaremonger nor a conspiracy theorist. As we shall see shortly, very high placed dignitaries are seen and hear articulating the same view. They are strangely silent now.

There are two aspects of this threat.

First, the manner in which the data is collected. As everyone knows, this is done by numerous small firms of questionable credentials, who have been found to have indulged in fraud. Police investigations are meandering on, as the lowing herd winding slowly over the lee (with apologies to Grey).

Secondly, foreign private firms with close links to foreign intelligence agencies are the ones contracted to provide biometric solutions.

The first of these aspects are well known and the a leading TV channel exposed it.

Dam all Dams!

The Government has taken a decision to increase the height of the Narmada dam. Illegal or not is for courts to decide. Give the luxury of time our judicial system has, by the time the courts decide, there will be no cows left to come home, since all of them would have been drowned in the swirling waters that would engulf the surrounding villages once the height is raised.

More importantly, my study shows that dams are no longer the "temples of India" or for that matter of the world as our first PM termed them.

They are perhaps an ecological disaster waiting to happen. They are a reason for earthquakes, they displace millions of people robbing them of their homes (33 millions in India alone at last count) and kill marine life. The life of a dam is only as long as the silt collected below allows it.

A Tsunami of strength 8.4 on the Richter scale hit Japan’s Pacific coast wrecking huge destruction.

Read the full news story in ‘Headlines Today’ for a well-documented piece of writing. ‘Headlines Today’ has this to say, “A ferocious tsunami spawned by one of the strongest earthquakes ever recorded slammed Japan's eastern coast on Friday, killing hundreds of people as it swept away boats, cars and homes while widespread fires burned out of control.

Hours later, the tsunami hit Hawaii and warnings blanketed the Pacific, as far away as South America, Canada, Alaska and the entire U.S. West Coast. Police said 200 to 300 bodies were found in the northeastern coastal city of Sendai. Another 88 were confirmed killed and at least 349 were missing. The death toll was likely to continue climbing given the scale of the disaster.”

New Tough Voter ID Laws in USA

A news story in New York Times talks of controversial voter ID laws that litigants claim are loaded against black voters who may vote Obama.

It says that most states that have passed these laws are Republican ruled. 

Could UID and / or other laws be enacted in India with similar aims?
